The Blue Mountains

01 Januari 1970 | Australië, Point Frederick

Took train from Gosford to Emu Plains. Anna's friend Debbie picked us up from the station. We drove by Anna's old house which was on the edge of the bush and then headed into the Blue Mountains. It was 40C in the mountains, so it was decided not to do any bush walking - a wise decision in my book as I was slowly turning into a puddle of sweat! They are very beautiful, a deep greeny blue with blue mist hanging over them. This is caused bt the oil coming off the eucalyptus trees. We took steepest train in the world down to an old coal mine. Then cabel car back up. The views were amazing - see photos. Heather also came. There are lovely little towns all around with lots of cafe's. We stopped for tea on way back but given that it was after 5 decided that a cool beer was a better choice. It was about a 2 hour trip on the train back to Gosford.

    Fiona:

Womderful photos, Wendy. You forget how BIG Australia is. Not to mention hot! Like the sound of the beers! Bet they tasted good. Could you also smell the eucalyptus?
